Founding AI Engineer (m/f/x)

Healthcare innovation should reach patients, not stop at the regulation.

Ardeevo · Fully remote (Italy) · Full-time

English translation. The original job description, in Italian, is on the Italian page.

Ardeevo supports manufacturers of medical devices and in vitro diagnostic medical devices on their path to compliance with Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR) and Regulation (EU) 2017/746 (IVDR), with Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance services.

We do it with an AI-native service model: our AI agents structure the regulatory documentation and our experts review and validate it before it reaches the client.

We are building the core of our technology team and are looking for the person who will lead the AI models and pipelines that draft the documentation, working with the experts who review it.

You report to the CTO and work every day with the regulatory experts and with the Senior Full Stack / Infrastructure Engineer, who looks after the platform, the data and the infrastructure; the models, pipelines, evaluations and model costs are in your hands.

01

Why Ardeevo

AI with a yardstick

Every output is assessed by a regulatory expert: you always know whether the system works.

Set the roadmap

You lead the choices on AI together with the founding team.

A hard problem

Long, structured documents anchored in the regulation, where every statement must cite a source.

A stake in the project

Talent joining the first core of the team is offered an employee share ownership plan (ESOP), presented in detail during the selection process.

02

What you will do

  • Design the agents and pipelines (LLMs, RAG on MDR and IVDR, harmonised standards, MDCG guidance) that draft the technical documentation.
  • Build, with the regulatory experts, the system that evaluates the outputs: datasets, metrics, regression tests.
  • Work on prompts and tool use, and on fine-tuning where needed.
  • Make sure every source is cited and traceable.
  • Manage costs, latency and the choice of models.
  • Bring the requirements of the AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) and of ISO/IEC 42001 into the product.
03

What we are looking for

Requirements

  • A degree in a technical or scientific field (computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics or related), or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience across machine learning and software development, including at least 3 on LLM-based systems in production.
  • Python, model integration through APIs, retrieval and vector databases, agents and tool use.
  • Design of systematic evaluations of outputs (datasets, metrics, regression tests).
  • Software engineering: testing, APIs, code quality.
  • At least one LLM-based system taken to production, which you can describe to us (domain, volumes, how you measured its quality).
  • Excellent command of Italian and professional, technical English.

Preferred

  • Open-weight models and fine-tuning.
  • Experience with long, structured documents.

Nice to have

  • A PhD or publications.
  • Experience in the medical or regulatory domain.
  • Knowledge of the AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689).

How you work

Experimental rigour, the habit of measuring before claiming and enjoyment of working alongside experts from another field.

04

What we offer

  • Training and exclusive access to events and initiatives of the European startup ecosystem.
  • Fully remote. Living in Rome, where our HQ is, or in Naples, where our Tech/IT team works, is a preferential requirement.
  • For profiles with more than 10 years of experience we also consider fractional management arrangements.
05
